Senior Liaison Legal Adviser
The Magistrat de liaison / Justice Attaché in Washington represents the Ministry of Justice in the United States. He works closely with the Department of Justice and various judicial authorities in this country so as to facilitate judicial cooperation in criminal matters (assistance in enforcement operations, extraditions, prisoner transfers, etc.) and civil matters (Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption, enforcement of judicial decisions, etc.) between the two countries.
He also follows legislative and regulatory developments and broader legal issues in this country. He prepares comparative law studies at the request of the Ministry of Justice.
There are 17 French Magistrats de liaison serving abroad at this time (Washington, Ottawa, Brasilia, Berlin, The Hague, London, Madrid, Rome, Tunis, Belgrade, Bucarest, Moscow, Dakar, Rabat, Alger, Doha, Ankara, Beijing). In Paris the European and international affairs section of the Ministry of Justice has seven foreign legal liaison officers from the United States, Spain, Germany, Britain, the Netherlands, Romania, Morocco and Algeria.
