The French Ministry of Education and the Cultural Services Department of the French Embassy offer approximately 1,500 teaching assistant positions each year for American citizens and permanent residents of the United States to teach English in France. This initiative aims to strengthen English language instruction in French primary and secondary schools by establishing a native speaker presence. The program also provides future teachers of French in the U.S. with excellent teaching experience and first-hand knowledge of French language and culture.

Program participants must demonstrate proficiency in French, have an interest in education, and possess the necessary skills to promote cultural understanding between France and the United States.

American assistants are placed across all regions of metropolitan France and in the overseas departments of French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Réunion. The gross monthly salary is approximately 950 euros, from which mandatory deductions for French social security (health insurance) are taken, resulting in a net salary of roughly 780 euros per month. Assistants are responsible for making their own housing arrangements.
