Turkey – French Aid following the earthquake in Van Province

To cope with the consequences of the devastating earthquake that struck Van province, and in consultation with Turkish authorities, France immediately set up a humanitarian assistance flight. The A300 chartered by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs landed around 3 a.m. on the night of Wednesday to Thursday at the new relief logistics center in Erzurum; it was the first plane to use it.

Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs crisis center staff were welcomed by their Turkish counterparts as well as by local authorities and Red Crescent members, providing for quickly unloading the numerous tents intended for homeless families carried by the plane. The tents were then transported to Van by road.

France is participating fully in the international effort helping Turkey cope with this catastrophe, in the spirit of solidarity with the population, and Turkish authorities, expressed by the French President, the Prime Minister, and the Ministre d'État for Foreign Affairs.

Haiti – Mr. Anel Belizaire’s Situation

On October 24th, Deputy Anel Bélizaire was arrested on the basis of a warrant issued without regard for his parliamentary immunity.

France invites the government and the Parliament to respect the procedures provided by Haiti’s Constitution regarding the separation of powers and parliamentary immunity.

IRAQ - Attacks in Baghdad

In the strongest terms, France condemns the double bomb attack perpetrated yesterday in Baghdad’s northern district killing 32 people and injuring more than 70.

France expresses its sympathy to the victim’s families and reiterates its support for Iraq’s authorities. France remains committed, at their side, to their resolute combat against terrorism.
